The ladies of Umina Beach Women's Bowling Club voted unanimously on Tuesday 16th April, to make

Susan Gaye Craske a Life Member.

President Gale was delighted to present a very emotional Sue with her Life Member badge.

Sue has been a member of our club since 2001 and has held the following positions:

Publicity Officer, Selector, Vice-President, President, Delegate to CCDWBA and Secretary, a position she has held since 2017.  She is also a National Umpire and Coach.   Sue has given outstanding service to our club and she justly deserves to be a Life Member.

PRESIDENT GALE'S SPECIAL DAY

Umina Beach Women's Bowling Club celebrated President Gale's term as President with a Special Day on Tuesday 9th April 2024.    Members welcomed President Gale, together with Bowls NSW Director Lesley Swales, and CCDWBA President Claudia Lawrence with a guard of honour.

The auditorium looked lovely with pink/mauve decorations.  A very enjoyable morning tea was served and then it was on to the green for a game of bowls.  The non-bowlers were moved to the lounge area so the auditorium could be re-decorated.

When Gale entered the auditorium for lunch she was surprised with a sea of Lavender (her favourite colour) with the theme depicting Jacaranda's.  Gale's home town is Grafton.

It was lovely to see Gale's family in attendance together with UBMBC President Tom, Secretary Peter and David representing Club Umina.    All enjoyed the meal and then formalities proceeded.

Bowls NSW Director Lesley presented Gale with a gift and also presented Merit Pins to 5 ladies who Gale had chosen.   Pam Fishenden, Meryl Burgmann, Betty Jack, Barbara Schultz and Sandra O'Malley.    Lesley also presented a Merit Pin to Gale as she had never received one.

2024-25 FOURS

Winners:   L>R Leila Gilmour   Lynn Kennedy   Jean Boardman  Pat Neal

The 2024-25 Club Fours were completed on 20th February 2024.  There were only 6 entries this year but the ladies played some great games, the results being determined on the last end.   Well done to all who entered.

Semi-Finals:

Pat Neal, Jean Boardman, Lyn Kennedy, Leila Gilmour   def

Gaye Foulkes, Aileen Robertson, Kerrie Richens, Debbie Moore

The other Semi-Final was actually the first game for these players.

Denise Arnold, Barbara Schultz, Gale Hill, Lynne Gordon  def

Sandra O'Malley, Terry Causby, Cheryl Catchpool, Meena Kelso

The final was played on the 20th February between Leila's team and Lynne's team.  The conditions were overcast with threatening rain.  After 4 ends the match was stopped by heavy rain with Lynne's ladies ahead.  Play resumed  at 1 pm after several hours delay.  Despite the wet green and very humid conditions, great bowls were played.  Leila's team caught up only to have Lynn's team go ahead and so the match went with a closely fought game.   With only a few ends to go Lynne's team were ahead by 5 but Leila's team won the next few ends to make it 18 apiece after the required 18 ends, thus forcing an extra end to be played.    On the extra end Leila's ladies managed to get up winning by 1 shot.     A great final played by all in very trying conditions.              Congratulations to all 8 players.
